Spear's live as a recording artist starts
way back in 1969, when he recorded a track
called "Door Peer" for Coxsone
Dodd's Studio One.
It was a true Cultural recording, with no
commercial attitude behind it. Quite the
contrary: Winston Rodney's message has been
clear from the start: he is a conscious man
and his music is directly inspired by his
faith as a Rastaman.
Ever since that one recording way back in
time, Burning Spear has been consistent in
using music as a way to express his
thoughts.
During the 1970's he became a recording
artist for Island Records. For this label,
too, he stayed conscious and with that he
managed to reach a completely new audience
for Reggae Music.
Burning Spear has made numerous albums
and single tracks, while he tours the whole
world to give many people an unforgetable
expereince as his live performances are as
impressive as his recorded material.
Even though he is now a true Reggae
Legend, with consistent world fame for
decades, he has never used that position to
bite back at his audience or his roots.
A lot of this can be found on the
official Burning Spear website, which it
truly an interesting site which goes much
further than a simple presentation.
Burning Spear is an example to all
independant artists, and he is a great
artist to witness in concert or play from
your CD or MP3 player.
