| There
is a small little country of which the
capital is more known than the name. And
since the 1970's, this country hosts some
very tight Reggae Bands as most residents
simply love the music and the vibes.
I'm speaking about the Netherlands, of
course. And in this case about Brother
Marcus and the Irie Connection too.
The first time I heard about brother
Markus was in 1990's. Sure Dread had been
enjoying a live concert from a band called
"The Movements" and naturally,
talked about it.
He was kind of enthousiastic about
"that keyboard player" in the
band. He told me, how that keyboard player
was in fact a very good vocalist and should
have been the lead singer of the band.
We kind of forgot about them, until about
ten years later we came to the overstanding
that Sure Dread was not alone in his
opinnion. That keyboard player is Brother
Marcus, of course, and the band is the Irie
Connection.
The music is sweet and tight. Well
versatile! You hear that most of the members
have a long time experience in Reggae Music.
And the few who don't, are easily taken
along by the skillfullness of the rest.
And yes, brother Marcus is blessed with a
beautiful voice. Every now and then he
reminds the listener to Rub a Dub singers
such as Cocoa Tea and Tenor Saw. When you
listen to a track like "United
Sounds", this will show instantly.
It goes further than that, even.
For brother Marcus has found the key to
get that special touch, which you can never
learn at no school. That special key is the
fact that JAH is not a word, but a
Person.
And if you get to know this Person, He
surely makes you sing. For He is the Creator
of us all. Whether we are black or
white.
And I think, that this is the real Irie
Connection for brother Marcus and the rest
in this gathering of heartical singers and
players of instruments. It surely is the
power which I sense in their words and
sounds. Check them out! |
