HISTORY OF THE DUBROOM

EARLY BEGININGS

The Dubroom came to exist early 1990 and went online 7 years later.

Actually, it was in the 2nd part of the 1980's. When Messian Dread formed the band Messiah Calling (operating under the name JAH Roots since the early 1990's), he also started experimenting with dubwise. 

His studio was named "The Dubroom". 

In 1997, it was time to go online. 

At first, the site only contained a few midifiles which people could download. Original midifiles, that is. 

Messian Dread was one of the first Dub artists who spread his works through Cyberspace. This was before mp3 was there. His midifiles can be found all over the world. 

Soon after establishing some name he made the works of Jah Roots keyboard-player Sure Dread compatible with the general midi standard and available for download. 

Other artists joined and submitted some tracks. 

The Midi Archive is still online, and still is the biggest online collection of high quality original Reggae midifiles.

With the introduction of the mp3-format, a new opportunity was born. 

Only equipped with the basic hardware (computer, soundcard) the Jah Roots Dreads, both in their own way, developed techniques to create their music in audio format. 

Today, they have more equipment and there are hundreds of legal mp3 files reviewed in the Dubroom.
