In two parts, the Spanish based BASS CULTURE Radio
Program features the musical works that came
into existence under the productional (read:
financial) works of Bunny Lee. Bunny "Striker"
Lee began to move and groove in the Jamaican
Music Business in the early 1960's. He plugged
records for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle Label
before turning himself into a producer (read:
financier), having his first hit somewhere in
1967.
Most will know his work from the 1970's when
he produced some of the hardest material of the
time with Sly and Robbie, a host of vocalists
like Johnny Clarke and Horace Andy. It was also
Bunny Lee, who is said to have stimulated King
Tubby into mixing his Dubs a little harder than
the rest.
BASS CULTURE went into the Reggae Archives
and selected a number of Bunny Lee productions,
covering the whole spectrum. The DJ provides a
lot of information, but when you're unable to
understand Spanish, this might be a reason to
skip this Podcast. Listening to over a minute of
talk between almost every tune might just be a
byte too much... |
