Reggae Music produced the foundation for many
contemporary forms of music: Hip-Hop, for example,
could never have come into existence if it were
not for the fact that Jamaican DJ's would start to
toast over the instrumentals.
Or take the many styles of contemporary digital
Dance Music, all heavily borrowing from the
concept which is known in Reggae Music as DUB.
Since decades, that is.
Toasting, DUB Mixing, they all require a
specific skill and talent. We speak about
disciplines. The discipline of DUB mixing, for
example. Or the discipline of DJ-ing (Toasting).
Another discipline of Reggae Music is formed by
the many Vocal Harmony Groups. In this podcast, we
are introduced to a small number of them.
Twenty-six, to be precise.
In 72 minutes, we're drawn back in time to the
time wherein Jamaica gave birth to Reggae Music
and even before. A time, wherein the discipline of
the Vocal Harmony Groups was already established
on Jamaica.
Convenient silences between tracks make this
historical excursion ideal to burn on CD for your
listening pleasure, by the way.
Enjoy another Jamaican Harmonic experience!
