It seems like there is a continual war between the
mainstream entertainment industry and the
Internet. Just take the whole MP3.com
thing, that
started back in the previous century. It's
obvious, that independent voices on the Internet
are a pain in the neck for the powers-that-be.
And now, it's time for the Internet
Broadcasters to face the ugly face of the big guys
in the entertainment industry.
What's going on?
Basically, the amount of royalties the
broadcasters have to pay, will dramatically
increase. Not just a few percent, but 100's of
percents! Apart from the fact that usually these
royalties will not end in the pockets of the
artists and therefore it's very existence is very
questionable, this increase in payment will simply
cause the bulk of Reggae shows to stop
broadcasting.
Take the Versionist website, for example. This
website is well-known to be a place for the online
artist community to release music, and recently
started their own Radio station where they
showcased the best of the Versionist artists as
well as crucial Reggae Music.
The show quickly rose in the charts at the
LIVE365.com website, as many people tuned in
because of the good vibes.
Not anymore, though...
Because of these new laws, the show had to
stop.
All of this caused by some new laws in the USA.
And as many servers are stored in the USA for a
variety of reasons, these new laws are in effect
for a major part of the Internet Broadcasting
Community.
Is there something we can do about it?
Perhaps.
Especially when you live in the USA. Check
