Because of all the work I have done last year,
mixing the music for the album doesn't need too
much preparations. I've done all the neccesary
works, and only have to set the effects tright on
each track. So I can give every attention I have
to the actual mixing of the tunes.
This is neccesary as well, because this will be
an album. I can't just pick and choose what I
consider the best ones and put them in a sequence.
I have to think about the tunes' topics and
musical style, and the sequence itself determines
where the DUB and Vocal parts will have to be
placed.
Fortunately, my experience with playing
concerts with JAH Roots (and also solo) turns out
to be quite helpfull too. I decided to treat this
album more or less as a concert: opening tunes,
climaxes, and all of these things are neccesary
ingredients to keep everything flowing.
I managed, to include DUB and Vocal parts in
every track. Some will start with a Dub, only to
go over into Vocal, and others have a different
approach. There is singing and toasting, sometimes
even in a combination. There is deep Roots,
militant Steppers, danceable Rub a Dub and spacey
Dubwise.
The big difference with everything I done thus
far is, that I actually am mixing music which will
not be available to listeners directly. I am a
true and real Online Artist, and I am used to have
direct contact with the listeners of my
music.
But before the Internet was there, this was a
luxury that only a few artists could afford. So
it's like stepping back in time, in a way.
I am here, in my studio, with only a few people
actually being able to monitor what I'm doing.
Even my publisher hasn't heard the music yet! I'm
waking up around 14.00 hour, do the Dubroom works
and start mixing at 17.00 hour, only to go to bed
when it's getting light, which isn't even early in
the morning during the month of January in the
Netherlands.
Some people would go crazy, but I actually feel
right at home in this situation. Since a good vibe
is absolutely neccesary, it's only obvious that
there's nothing but good vibes in the house. These
are times when I do consider myself to be among
the most blessed people on the face of the earth,
at least that is how I perceive it.
