JAMRID Website now presents "Soundman",
the web's only Reggae based MP3 player which
enables you to create a typical Reggae Mix.
The
whole concepts of bands with albums isn't really
descriptive for Reggae, since the music is
primarily founded by studio bands in Jamaican
studio's like Channel One, Studio One, Dynamic and
others. When it came to "Live Music",
this was more found in the expensive hotels on
Jamaica then in the ghetto's of Kingston.
In these ghetto's, the sound systems ruled.
Armed with vinyl singles, often carrying special
versions straight from the studio, the selector
played the tunes and the MC voiced on top of that.
This marked the start of what we now know as
"Dancehall". The music wasn't just
played, something was actually done with it. Often
you can hear the MC saying things like
"Wheeeeeeeeel" (rewind) and hear effects
like a Sirene.
It's
now possible to create your own Reggae mixes
"Dancehall Style" by using a piece of
software called "Soundman". The program
is released from the excellent JAMRID
Website where you can find a lot of
information about Riddims (as "songs"
are called in Reggae Music) in word and sound.
What can you do with Soundman? You create a
playlist, change it while you're mixing the tunes,
and when you mix you can perform a number of
things "just like" in the Dancehall.
Pull up, rewind, add sirens and other sound
effects and more. Soundman is designed to work
with the Windows platform at a screen resolution
of 1024 by 768, and an installed version Windows
Media Player is required.
